The Story Behind Simply Heard Counseling

I didn’t start this practice with a five-year plan or a polished pitch deck. I started it because I wanted to work for myself—and more importantly, I needed to work in a way that honored my family, my faith, and my style. I’ve got young kids, a heart full of intention, and zero interest in letting someone else decide how many clients I should see or how I should show up for them.

I missed the convenience of supervision, sure. But what I gained was something richer: the freedom to create, to promote, to shape a brand that reflects what actually matters to me. I get to speak with people from all walks of life, gather their insights, and build something that feels like home—for them and for me.

Why Simply Heard?

Because too many people I’ve met—clients, colleagues, even strangers—have shared one common ache: they didn’t feel truly listened to. Not just nodded at. Not just tolerated. But heard. Even when their beliefs didn’t align with mine. Even when their stories were messy, complicated, or hard to hold. That kind of listening felt missing across the board. So Simply Heard was born—not as a slogan, but as a promise.

How I Show Up

My faith shapes how I show up in the room. I believe hope deferred makes the heart sick, and when someone’s lost hope in themselves, it helps to consider something outside their current lens. Sometimes I hold that hope for them until they’re ready to pick it back up. I care about your story—what you’ve been through, what your first classroom (home life, etc.) taught you, and how it shaped the way you move through the world.

I serve individuals, couples, veterans, and teens. My approach isn’t cookie-cutter—it’s curated. I pull from Gottman Method, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and whatever else fits the person sitting across from me. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all healing. I believe in listening, adapting, and honoring the uniqueness of each client.

The Behind-the-Scenes Truth

Building this practice has stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. I’ve had to learn the back end and the front end—billing, branding, tech troubleshooting, portal integration, all of it. I’ve had to be humble, resourceful, and fight that imposter syndrome something fierce. But every time I hear “I feel better,” “I didn’t know that,” or “Thank you for listening,” I remember why I started.

What’s Next?

I don’t know what the future holds. Only God does. But I hope Simply Heard continues to be a space where people feel seen, supported, and maybe even a little more hopeful than when they walked in. Whether it’s through therapy, a blog post, a Sunday video, or a handmade aromatherapy ritual—I want people to know they matter.

That’s the story. No fluff. Just real talk
